Mike Aschenbrener, Forest Lake, is the new chair of the Youth Service Bureau board of directors for 2005.

Aschenbrener, the chief of police in Mendota Heights, is a former police sergeant with the Forest Lake Police Department. He took office on March 30.

Other board members were elected to serve for one term: Kathy Lillis, Pro IV Realty, Rush City will serve as vice chair; Brian Brogmus, Forest Lake, will serve as treasurer; and Bea Zaruba, First State Bank of Wyoming, will serve as secretary.

Sgt. Kent Strege, Lino Lakes Police Department is past chair. Rejoining the YSB board of directors as an ex-officio member is Jim Trudeau, Forest Lake, former Washington County Sheriff and chief of police in Forest Lake. Trudeau was a founder of the YSB.

As the YSB continues to face financial challenges due to funding cuts, a strong fundraising plan will be key to ensuring that programs and services continue at current levels and can expand to meet increasing need, Aschenbrener said.

After witnessing strong community support in 2004, board members are optimistic about an ability to fund and secure the future. In last yearís first formal campaign, YSB board members successfully raised $90,000 in support of Youth Service Bureau programs from local individuals and businesses.

ìWe do realize that 2005 does bring new challenges, but when everyone comes together for the same reason, the success of our youth and community, amazing things can happen,î Kathy Lillis said.

Brogmus, who moves to full board membership as treasurer after completing an associate membership term, believes that ìThe YSB is a dynamic organization that has served our community for almost three decades. I am excited to be such an integral part of an organization that betters the future of our youth.î

Persons interested in serving on the board of directors are asked to call Jeanne Walz, YSB executive director, at 651-464-3685 or email at Jeanne.Walz@ysblakesarea.org for more information.

Youth Service Bureau is a non-profit organization, serving residents of Washington, Chisago and Anoka counties. The mission of YSB is to ensure the success of youth.

Programs and services provided reflect the belief youth will be successful when relationships are strong, families are involved, communities are caring, harmony is restored and youth have the skills and opportunities for citizenship.
