ISD 831 wonít have a new director of community education until next year now that the district and Dan Poepard have agreed to a contract that will keep Poepard as an interim director through the end of the calendar year and possibly longer. The school board Aug. 4 approved an agreement recommended by Superintendent Lynn Steenblock to retain Poepard as community education director on an interim basis effective Aug. 22. Poepard officially retired at the end of the day July 29. The reemployment agreement continues through Dec. 31. In October, Steenblock said he will evaluate the hiring process for a new director or work on a second extension with Poepard for the winter and spring of 2006. The reemployment contract was sought after the district hiring team determined the three finalists for the position were not the right fit for the district, Steenblock said. Poepard will earn compensation prorated to his formal contract for the 2005-2006 school year.
