Big turnout for National Night Out in Wyoming

Take a warm summer evening, mix in some kids, dogs, bikes, strollers, music, fire trucks, a helicopter, and maybe the worldís biggest lawn sprinkler and you have a lawn party. It was perfect on August 2 for the National Night Out Celebration in Wyoming in Sunrise Park.

There were many exhibits showcasing public safety equipment and vehicles for both the fire and police departments, and the National Guard.

A helicopter made a special appearance landing on one of the fields east of the parking lot. Music under the picnic shelter was courtesy of the Jay Michaels Band. Provide Care put together ice cream floats for those attending.

Perhaps one of the biggest attractions on the hot evening was a large lawn sprinkler, courtesy of the Wyoming fire department and one of its trucks; a cool shower in the grass, on a hot night.

Some park neighbors took advantage of the celebration to just relax in their own back yards.

Pine County Deputy Sheriff Dan Kunz and his K-9 partner Rebel gave a demonstration of their working relationship.

Kunz told the audience that Rebel came to the department from the Czech Republic, is trained to identify four narcotics and is also skilled in tracking, agility events, and obedience.

The two gave a lively demonstration of their team skills on one of the soccer fields. Investigator Scott Dexter volunteered as ìvictimî for the demo.

Rebel demonstrated his skills at a recent local competition and scored 633 of 700 points, sufficient to qualify the team for National Competition in Evansville, IN.
