After not advancing to the district three tournament in a few years, the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 baseball team made a run at the district championship but came up short.
Post 225 was paired against number one ranked West St. Paul in the first game of the double elimination round. West St. Paul played like a number one ranked team and beat Post 225 14-1.
ìWe made some errors and they (West St. Paul) took advantage of them,î Post 225 head coach Kale Henry said.
The loss to West St. Paul put Post 225 into the losers bracket where they played Shakopee next.
Post 225 scored three first inning runs as they went on to beat Shakopee 8-2. Jeff Brooks was 3-5 in the game with a double and an RBI. Trip Schultz pitched six innings, allowing two runs. At the plate Schultz went 3-5 with two RBIs.
ìWe had a little different lineup as Andrew Pooch and Matt Kreitlow were gone,î Henry said. ìDavid Guarke and Drew Cremisino played great as they filled in for us after only playing limited roles in the first half of the season.î
The win advanced Post 225, pairing them up with Stillwater. Jed Hanson pitched seven innings, but a Jeff Brooks grand slam in the first inning helped Post 225 win the game 11-5.
ìIt was a well played game for us,î Henry said.
Brooks was 2-5 at the plate with four RBIs and Schultz also had a home run as he was 2-4.
Northfield was Post 225ís next victim as Post 225 destroyed them 20-5.
ìWe really hit the ball hard all weekend, but that game was a bit different,î Henry said.
Guarke was 3-6 in the game with three runs scored and three RBIs, Erik Zentzis was 4-6 with two RBIs and Hanson was 3-6 with a home run and five RBIs.
Chaska ended Post 225ís season though in an 11-1 game.
ìWe played a double header on Saturday and Chaska had a little more pitching in the tank than we did,î Henry said. ìThey hit the ball well and beat us, but thatís the way baseball is.î
The loss gave Post 225 an overall record of 17-11-1 and they finished in the top six of the third district.
ìWe had a nice tournament and it was a nice way to end the season,î Henry said.
