The Forest Lake chapter of Rotary Internationalís fundraiser Race for Rotary is starting to shape up.

With the August 6 race day nearing, close to 200 racers have signed up. Race organizer Chris Johnson says the FL Rotary is expecting between 200 and 250 racers for their first ever race.

The Race for the Rotary will be a one day event where racers will get behind the wheel of a state of the art racing kart that travels at speeds around 40 m.p.h. The track will be 1/3 of a mile with two hairpin turns and one long sweeping curve.

The Race will be August 6 in the Northland Mall parking lot.

Racers can enter the Race for Rotary individually or as a team of 10 racers. There is a $100 entry fee for each racer. The entry fee covers driver pit access on race day, an event T-shirt, a pre-qualification pass to a Pro Kart Indoor Raceway facility and a chance to win other prizes.

The original goal for the FL Rotary was to have at least 400 racers sign up, but they also realize that is a lofty goal for their first year.
ěTo get 250 racers out there for our first year will be a great crowd,î Johnson said.

Racers can register all the way up to the day of the race and Johnson says walk-up registration will most likely be accepted as well.
The Forest Lake Lions Club will be selling concessions starting Friday during the practice rounds and continue selling Saturday during the race.
