Colorado mountain search for Jeff Christensen continues

As Saturday dawned in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park, rescuers began their second week of searching for park ranger Jeff Christensen, 31, a former Forest Lake resident, who disappeared July 29 after leaving on a backcountry mountain patrol. Friday's search efforts opened with optimism after reports late Wednesday of gunshots and smoke, but the day ended with no news of where the 31-year-old ranger may be. Christensen, a four-year park ranger, is an experienced hiker who left a trailhead July 29 with a small supply of food and water. Friday's search centered near Bighorn Mountain in the northern range of the park with an elevation of more than 11,000 feet. He had a sidearm and also carried a two-way radio and cell phone. His parents, Dale and Chris Christensen, Forest Lake, remain in the park. A Jeff Christensen Family Fund has been established to assist the couple. Contributions may be sent to The Bank of Colorado, P.O. Box 533, Estes Park, CO, 80507. For more information, call 970-586-8185.
