A 2-1 record on the week and 3-1 overall record has Forest Lake High School boys basketball coach Chuck Gunderson pleased with the teamís progress thus far in the season.
The Rangers started the week with a 53-41 loss to Centennial.Josh Williams led the Rangers in scoring with 10 points, followed by Nate Robertson who had eight.
ìIt was a tough game for us,î Gunderson said. ìCentennial put a lot of pressure on us and we didnít handle it well.î
The Rangers bounced back though and defeated Champlin Park 43-35 Thursday.
Williams again led the Rangers this time scoring 11 points. Robertson wasnít far behind with nine points, and Aaron Jacobs had six points.
ìWe had 47 rebounds in the game and a lot of those were offensive so we were able to get some easy baskets,î Gunderson said.
Rebounding definitely helped the Rangers win since their shooting percentage was sub par according to Gunderson.
The Rangers continued their good play Saturday afternoon when they hosted Duluth Denfeld. The Rangers were able to jump ahead early and stay ahead as they won 51-40.
ìI thought we executed better offensively,î Gunderson said. ìWeíre feeling more comfortable on the floor.î
Robertson was the big scorer for the Rangers as he had 12 points, followed by Williams who had 10. Rob Gavanda and Matt Hansmann each had eight points.
ìWe are playing some pretty good defense right now,î Gunderson said. ìWhen youíre giving up the amount of points we have over the last two games, that makes winning easier.î
The Rangers next game is Friday when they host North Branch at 7:30 p.m.
