Nordic teams start off where they left off last season

Prior to the Forest Lake Invite at Troll Hollow the Forest Lake High School boys and girls nordic ski teams were flying high after the boys won the state championship and the girls placed third at the state meet. The Rangers started the 2005-06 season with the boys taking first and the girls second at the Forest Lake Invite.

Annie Dehmlow led the girls team with a second place individual finish with a time of 17:20 to be the only Rangers skier in the top 10. The girls team finished with 372 points, not far behind first place Anoka who had 381 points.

On the boys side, individual state champion Ben Fick led the way for the Rangers with a first place time of 12:32. Crossing the finish line right behind Fick in second through fourth place was Ted Steiner in second with a time of 13:02, Zac Clark in third with a time of 13:31 and Leif Nordgren in fourth with a time of 13:32.

The boys team was in first place with 394 points. Second place Mahtomedi wasnít even close with 373 points.

ěThe kids are off to a fine start and will be building up the ski volume thru the holidays,î Rangers head coach Deno Johnson said. ěAnnie (Dehmlow) and Leif (Nordgen) had the races of the day for us.î

The Rangers next race is Saturday when they ski in the St. Paul Como Park Invite at Phalen Golf Course at 9 a.m.
