The Washington County Board of Commissioners has adopted the 2006 budget and tax levy for property taxes. Commissioners have voted to adopt the 2006 county budget in the amount of $150.2 million. The new budget is a 5.5 percent increase over 2005. The property tax for 2006 levy was certified at $70.3 million, a 5.7 percent increase over last year. The increase funds service improvements in areas such as law enforcement, child welfare, libraries and license centers. Even after the increase, Washington County is expected to have the second lowest tax rate in the state in 2006. Action came on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
