Late goal is too much for boys hockey team to overcome against Woodbury

Thanks to the addition of Cretin-Derham Hall to the Suburban East Conference the Forest Lake High School boys hockey team had a bye this week, leading to only one game instead of two. In the Rangers lone game of the week they lost 4-3 to Woodbury.

ìI think we played three strong periods of hockey,î Rangers head coach Carl Brandt said. ìWe played from behind though which seems to be our history a little bit.î

Two first period goals by Woodbury had the Rangers playing catch-up. Both teams exchanged goals in the second period, but then the Rangers scored two in the third to tie things up.

ìWe got behind and the boys showed a lot of character tying up the game in the third period,î Brandt said.
Goals from the Rangers came from Christian Fogerty, Tom Kubes and Kenny Rivet.

Woodbury was able to score the eventual game winner with about four minutes left to play in the game.

ìI told their coach after the game that they were probably the best team weíve played so far from a depth perspective, and they have solid defense and goaltending,î Brandt said.

The Rangers next game is today, Thursday, when they host Hastings at 7:30 p.m. at the Maroon and Gold Arena.

ìI think theyíre looking like we are in that theyíre trying to figure out what kind of team do they have,î Brandt said. ìI donít think theyíve found their identity nor have we.î

A threat Hastings has is senior forward Jared Stewart who leads the SEC in scoring with seven goals and five assists despite sitting out two games.
