With only one game on the schedule this week for the Forest Lake High School girls basketball team, they would have liked to have won it, especially since it was against Suburban East Conference foe Park (Cottage Grove), but they lost 57-27.
ìThe kids played hard and defensively we played hard, but we were 10-56 from the field,î Rangers head coach Jen Wagner said. ìYouíre not going to win many games shooting below 20 percent.î
The Rangers fell behind big in the first half as Park (Cottage Grove) had a 35-9 lead at the half.
ìThe girls were frustrated for obvious reasons (going into halftime),î Wagner said. ìWe talked about how weíve scored 41 points in a half before and we needed to do that.î
The Rangers picked up the pace in the second half, but were still outscored 22-18 as they fell 57-27.
The Rangers leading scorer was Renee Frericks who scored 10 points. Frericks also had four rebounds and two assist.
ìWE had four really solid days of practice,î Wagner said going into Tuesday nightís game against St. Paul Como Park. ìThe kids came in with a new focus and dedication to take the steps they need to take to be where we want to be at the end of the season. They have a very good work ethic and a good attitude from ninth graders to the seniors.î
The Rangers next game is today, Thursday, when they host Minnetonka at 7: 30 p.m.
