Resting some of the regular gymnasts for their meet against Suburban East Conference powerhouse Woodbury, the Forest Lake High School gymnastics team placed third at the Forest Lake Gymnastics Meet last Tuesday.
Cambridge-Isanti took first in the meet with 143.75 points, followed by Centennial who had 139.30 points and the Rangers who had 136.65 points. Chisago Lakes took fourth place with 129.50 points.
ìWe had a very different look in our lineup because we wanted to rest some of our injured and sore gymnasts in preparation for a tough conference meet against Woodbury,î Rangers head coach Nancy Ellias said. ìThe girls who did compete for us came through and several had really good performances.î
Tasha Tyler had a good meet as she placed third on the floor with a score of 9.25.
Kelsey Callahan had personal best scores in both the all around and vault. Callahan had a score of 32.45 in the all around competition and a score of 8.5 on the vault.
Last Thursday the Rangers hosted Woodbury and despite a strong performance, they lost 142.025-136.025.
ìIt is always frustrating when you score lower and do better routines, but that is part of the inconsistency of judging in a subjective sport like gymnastics,î Ellias said.
The highlight for the Rangers was Nicole Paulson taking first on both the bars and vault. Paulson had a score of 9.125 on the bars and a 9.425 on the vault.
Tasha Tyler also took second in the all around with a score of 34.0, while Taylor Brett took third with a score of 30.9.
ìWe had a much better meet than Tuesday night, but our score was lower,î Elias said. ìOur routines were cleaner, had more difficulty, and we had more positive attitudes. We were a much better team.î
The Rangers next meet is Jan. 5 when they host White Bear Lake at 6:30 p.m.
