Crash on I-35 in Forest Lake claims life of Blaine man
A two-car crash on I-35 in Forest Lake Thursday night claimed the life of a Blaine man.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Richard J. McCullough, 69, was killed at 7:42 p.m. when his car was struck broadside by a second vehicle in the northbound lanes of I-35 at US-8. The State Patrol said McCullough had missed his exit, pulled over on the right shoulder and was attempting to turn around when his 2003 Ford Focus was hit. McCullough, who was alone in his car, died at the scene.
The second northbound car, a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro, was driven by Derek Johnson, 17, of Wyoming. He was not injured, the State Patrol said. A passenger in the Johnson vehicle, Renee Johnson, 44, was treated and released at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming. The State Patrol said alcohol was not involved in the accident and both drivers were using seat belts.
