Police nab liquor store robber after short chase in FL

A Maplewood man who is a suspect in a local liquor store armed robbery was arrested south of Forest Lake Monday night after a brief chase by area police.

Police from Forest Lake assisted the Chisago County Sheriffís Office in the arrest of Mark David Schwinghammer, 23 on I-35 south of TH-97 just after 8 p.m.

At 8:03, police here were notified that County Line Liquor, 24013 Goodview Way, Wyoming Township, had been robbed.

Police picked up the suspects vehicle on US-61 just north of the downtown. Schwinghammer was pursue south on US-61 and west on TH-97 before the stop on I-35 was made.

He is now in custody at the Chisago County Jail in Center City where he is being held on charges of aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, possession of a stolen handgun and fleeing a police officer.

Formal charges were expected on Tuesday.

Along with Forest Lake police, Chisago County deputies were assisted by police from Wyoming, the Minnesota State Patrol and deputies from Anoka County.

Ice Arena fight

Four tickets, three to juveniles, were written to youth from the Forest Lake and Cambridge areas after two fights at the Maroon and Gold Ice Arena, 832 SW 4th St., during and after a hockey game between the two high schools on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Police from Forest Lake working the event and school and arena personnel went into the stands to stop the first fight after a Cambridge player who had earlier been removed from the game began fighting with Forest Lake fans.

Two males were issued juvenile citations.

A 17-year-old from Isanti was ticketed for fifth-degree assault and a 17-year-old from Forest Lake was ticketed for disorderly conduct.

About 10 minutes after the first fight, police were called to stop a fight outside the arena between two female combatants.

Amber L. Oslund, 18, of Cambridge, was ticketed for disorderly conduct.

A 17-year-old female from Forest Lake was given a juvenile citation for disorderly conduct.

Business burglary

Winnick Supply, 92 SW 11th Ave., was the victim of a business burglary overnight on Thursday, Dec. 1.

A forced-entry burglary resulted in the theft of two plasma cutting machines with total value of $2900. A window to Winnick Supply was broken as the access point.

Police said tracks were followed to the Northland Mall parking lot where the burglars had a car waiting.

Other crimes

In other crimes, police here are:

ïInvestigating two reports of vandalism to exterior and interior walls of Century Junior High School, 21395 Goodview Ave. N.

ïInvestigating two more reports of theft of mail from homes on Fenway Ave. N. north of 180th St. One week earlier some 50 homes in a two-mile stretch of Harrow Avenue were targets for theft of mail from mail boxes.

ïReminding city residents to refrain from parking on any city street between 2-6 a.m. Overnight parking is prohibited within city limits and local officers continue to write tickets for violations.

A violation and conviction can carry a fine ranging from $24 to $54.
