After completing its Truth in Taxation public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 29, the ISD 831 School Board will finalize the 2005 property tax levy at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15. The levy is for property taxes to be collected in 2006. The district is proposing a new tax levy of $1,632,523 which represents a 13.5 percent increase over the levy of $12,113,054 that was certified a year ago. Larry Martini, director of business affairs, said the local tax increase for school funding is due in part to a shift at the state level that has added $140 million to local property taxes statewide. Although the school districtís local tax rate has declined by 4.5 percent, many properties will see a tax increase based on increases in property valuation. About 10 school district residents attended the tax hearing at Forest Lake High School.
