Wyoming Council reforms planning commission

New Wyoming Planning Commission members will be on board soon and former commission members who have lost their posts shared some of their thoughts about the changes.
Richard Haworth had been a 10-year member of the commission. He commented on the advisory function of the commission to the city council.
Haworth said he was not asked to resign from his position on planning, but the newly elected council ìasked for background from everyone.î
He also said the commission is ìadvisory to the city council and he recognizes council members right to choose members of the commission.î Further, council wanted at least one member with experience on the commission. He said that it was his observation that as a whole the new council has ìno background in city management.î
Reappointment on the planning commission was not offered to Dave Marvel, as well. He was a three-year member.
Shortly after the November election, members of the city council-elected and city staff asked commission members to submit resumes.
Recommendations were made based on these and interviews by City Administrator Jill Teetzel and interim CM Bob Hittner.
Marvel said, ìit had been my plan to continue serving.î
He said he ìdoesnít know what the plan isî yet, but figures the council decided to go with a new set of residents on the commission. However, the way the council selected new people is ìdifferent from the way it is normally done.î
Hittner would not comment on the direction of the new city council. He has served on the commission in the past and will retain his work with the commission pending the upcoming special election to council to fill the seat previously held by the late Martin English.
Attempts to contact council members were unsuccessful through Monday. Commission appointments were an agenda item for the city council meeting Tuesday night this week.
