Wyoming Township won't appeal ruling

In a closed session meeting last Thursday, the Wyoming Township Board voted unanimously against pursuing an appeal of the recent annexation decision that will place roughly 5000 acres of township land into Chisago City at the end of February.
According to Town Administrator Fred Weck, the township retains the option of appealing the rulingİuntil Thursday, Feb. 24, but chose not to exercise it at this time, on advice from attorneys.
ìThey (town board supervisors) could still change their mind,îİWeck noted.
Meanwhile, the transition moves forward. Chisago City has announced Tuesday, April 19 as the date for a special election.
On the ballot will be two council seats to be filled via an ìat-largeî vote. The polls will be open on that day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Also, the township is seeking interested residents to fill the many committee vacancies created by the annexation.
Those committees include the planning commission, the park and recreation board, the emergency management committee and the board of appeals.
Appointments are scheduled to be made on March 22.
The transitional teams met again on Tuesday afternoon as well. One of the larger issues theyİare faced withİis creating rules and regulations forİthe newly annexed land.
Much of the land is very rural in nature, including inİsome cases livestock farms, and Chisago Cityİmust fashion zoning and other legislationİto address these areas.
