Itís been a tough stretch for the Forest Lake High School girls basketball team. With losses to Park (Cottage Grove) and Stillwater this week, the Rangers losing streak extended to 10 games.
The Rangers jumped out to a 10-4 first quarter lead over Park (Cottage Grove) last Tuesday, but, Park (Cottage Grove) outscored the Rangers 10-4 in the second quarter to go into the half tied.
The Rangers bounced back in the third quarter and took a one point, 23-22 lead. Park (Cottage Grove) bounced back in the fourth quarter though and outscored the Rangers 10-4 to win the game 32-27.
ìWe were in it the whole way,î Rangers head coach Jack Bender said. ìThe thing that was encouraging from an individual standpoint is weíre getting production out of senior Katie Anderson.î
Anderson led the Rangers in scoring with eight points. Renee Frericks had six points and Christina Odegard had four points.
On Friday night, the Rangers took on Stillwater. After trailing by one after the first quarter, the Rangers fell behind by 15 as Stillwater was up 29-14.
The third quarter saw the Rangers cut their deficit down some as they outscored Stillwater 19-14, but Stillwater secured the victory by outscoring the Rangers 14-10 in the fourth quarter. The final was 57-43.
ìWe had a chance in the game, but you have to get it done on the floor,î Bender said. ìThe kids are doing a pretty good job and theyíve done good things for a portion of the game, but there is that one quarter where weíre not doing anything.î
The Rangers next game is Saturday when they host Duluth East at 3 p.m.
