The Forest Lake High School boys swimming and diving team dropped a close dual meet to Woodbury last Thursday, 100-86.
The final score was not indicative of how close the meet was until the final event. Forest Lake trailed throughout most of the meet anywhere from four to eight points and needed a first and second place finish in the final event to win the meet. Forest Lake was only able to obtain a second place leaving the final margin of victory.
Forest Lake was lead by sophomore Mark Sandager and ninth grader Andy Knaak who each finished first in two individual events and were members of the second place 400 freestyle relay team. Sandager was first in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke and Knaak in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Junior diver Dillon Hudalla provided the only other first place finish for the Rangers.
Second place finishes for the Rangers included junior Sam Gort in two individual events, the 200 and 500 freestyle, and as a member of two second place relay teams, the 200 and 400 freestyle. Junior James Kassel was second in the 200 individual medley and part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Other members of the second place 200 freestyle relay team included senior Mark Anderson and sophomore John Gavanda. The remaining member of the 400 freestyle relay team was senior Jake Morrison.
Third place finishes were provided by Anderson in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Gavanda in the 50 freestyle, eighth grader Jeff Isaacson in diving, sophomore Tyler Sperry in the 100 butterfly, ninth grader Elijah Miller in the 100 backstroke, and the 200 medley relay team of Morrison, Sperry, eighth grader Mike Bahr and sophomore Matt Elden. The 200 freestyle relay team of ninth grader Peter Sandager, Elden, ninth grader John Goosens, and Miller also finished third.
Other points for the Rangers in the loss came from Elden who placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle, Morrison who placed fourth in the 200 individual medley, Gavanda placed fourth in the 100 freestyle, and Sperry fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Seventh grader Connor Florand placed fifth in diving and Kassel was fifth in the 500 freestyle.
The Rangers finished their dual meet season this week with a non-conference home meet with Chisago on Tuesday and the final conference dual meet at Stillwater today, Thursday, at 6 p.m.
