Legal action sought to block MRC meeting

The legal steps to block plans for a race track and card club in Columbus Township is expected to take a new turn this week. After a Ramsey County judge dismissed the Columbus Concerned Citizens case to stop a Dec. 29 Minnesota Racing Commission meeting that essentially reopened the case for the North Metro Harness Initiativeís proposed racing track/card room in Columbus Township, the CCD decided to follow the judgeís advice and take the matter to the Minnesota applet courts. This time the CCC is trying to stop the racing commission from holding its Jan. 19 meeting where they plan to take up the issue of a proposed harness racing track/card room and possibly vote. The commission has an open record until Wednesday, Jan. 18, not Jan. 19 as the Times reported last week, where proponents and opponents of the project can submit and information or letters to be considered as evidence.
