Gymnastics places fifth at MGGOA

The goal for the Minnesota Girls Gymnastics Official New Year Classic in Roseville for the Forest Lake High School gymnastics team was to finish in the top five. When the final scores were tallied the Rangers accomplished their goal by placing fifth.

ìThe 12 team invitational had some very strong teams with White Bear Lake, Eden Prairie, Roseville and Mahtomedi so we set a team goal to place fifth,î Rangers head coach Nancy Ellias said. ìIt was a strong field and we finished fifth.î

The Rangers best finish in the invite was Nicole Paulson who placed fourth on the bars with a score of 9.45.

ìThis young gymnast has a great bar routine and it is fun to watch,î Ellias said of Paulson. ìShe definitely has a state level competitive routine.î

Other notable finishes include Stephanie Sampaier who placed 16th on the beam, 19th on the bars and 14th in the all-around competition. Tasha Tyler placed 17th on the floor and 18th in the all-around competition while Janel Duffy placed 19th on the floor and Ashley Morris 20th on the floor.

The Rangers finished with a team total 134.2 points, just behind fourth place finisher Roseville who had 239.075 points. White Bear Lake won the invite with 145.924 points.

The Rangers next match is today, Thursday, when they host Mounds View at 6:30 p.m.
