The Forest Lake High School nordic ski team continued to tear up the high school nordic ski scene with a second place finish for the boys and a fourth place finish for the girls out of 56 boys and 58 girls teams at the Mesabi East Invitational Jan. 8.
ìItís very encouraging to see that my kids have picked up where they left off last season,î Rangers head coach Deno Johnson said. ìOur boys and girls were collectively the best again in the team standings, just like the state meet last year.î
In the boys classic race, Ben Fick placed second with a time of 16:10 and Ted Steiner seventh with a time of 16:40. In the skate race Zac Clark placed 15th with a time of 16:50 and Leif Nordgren 31st with a time of 17:21.
ìThe boys have been training incredibly hard so this is a very good result for them,î Johnson said. ìA lot of things will change in the next month and they will be skiing even quicker in Feb.î
For the girls, Sarah Wright placed third in the classic race with a time of 19:21 with teammate Becky Alexander not far behind in 26th place with a time of 21:33. In the skate race Nikki Duff placed 23rd with a time of 20:32 and Jenny Coozennoy 41st with a time of 21:26.
