Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce president Deborah Feist stopped by last Wednesdayís Columbus Township town board meeting to ask the town board to consider joining the chamber.
Feist pointed out that the township was a member of the chamber, but hasnít been a member for several years. Feist said that the function of the chamber has become more economic development and that the chamber can help the township develop the freeway district.
ìLetís face it,î Feist said, ìColumbus has some of the most development opportunities in the area. Very often people who are thinking of moving businesses to the area call the chamber and weíre in a position to be helpful and weíd like to have closer communication with the township.î
Feist says developers are calling not just about residential development opportunities, but also for commercial development opportunities.
The town board voted unanimously to join the chamber for $385 a year.
Engineer's Report
Township engineer Larry Bohrer updated the township on the sanitary sewer project. Bohrer says the project has suspended for the winter because the workers are encountering three inches of frost.
Some minor projects can still be completed, but the freeway crossing and gravity portion of the sewer are complete. A lift station is in place, but the plumbing within it still needs to be completed.
Some work through a portion of wetlands will be completed as work conditions are ideal for excavating and should be completed during Jan.
