Girls team dominates 2 of 3

Going into the Cambridge-Isanti Tournament, the Forest Lake High School girls hockey team was 1-9-3, after the tournament they had improved their record to 3-10-3.

The Rangers opened up the tournament with a commanding 9-2 victory over Princeton. The Rangers scored three goals in each period, allowing only two Princeton goals in the second period.

Anna Johnson had a hat trick for the Rangers with teammate Kelsey Blum scoring two goals. Kathy Crudo, Alicia Melbostad, Alexa Nelson and Anne Woods also had goals. Goalie Cassie Carpenter stopped 12 of 14 Princeton shots in the win.

The next day the Rangers played a tougher opponent when they faced off with host Cambridge-Isanti. Alyssa Jackson of Cambridge-Isanti scored the only goal of the game in the third period as Cambridge-Isanti won the game 1-0. Goalie Kim Fredrick stopped 20 of 21 shots in the game.

The Rangers bounced back from their loss to Cambridge-Isanti with another commanding win. The Rangers beat Moose Lake Area 8-0 in the final game of the tournament. Johnson again scored a hat trick and Melbostad scored two goals.

Crudo, Nelson and Stephanie Haider each scored a goal. Carpenter stopped all 12 shots that came her way to record her second shutout of the year.

The Rangers next game is Saturday when they host Mounds View at 7:30 p.m.
