The Forest Lake High School boys and girls nordic ski teams had one of the best holiday ski camps in team history.
The skiing Rangers logged 28 hours of skiing over the Christmas break at the Birkie Trail in Hayward, WI and the boys placed second and the girls third at the Suburban East Conference Sprint Relay.

The tandem of Ben Fick and Ted Steiner took first in the boys race.

ìBen and Ted took first despite a crash,î Rangers coach Deno Johnson said. ìTed broke a pole on the first lap too.î
Zac Clark and Jim Babbitt took third. Jamison Hull and Travis Strike placed 17th and Joe Mitchell and Mike Howe placed 29th.

In the girls race Nikki Duff and Sarah Wright placed second with Jenny Coozennoy and Becky Alexander placing ninth. Annie Dehmlow and Katie Clark teamed up to place 17th, Auralee McGary and Kate Babbitt placed 23rd and Megan Gooley and Kristi Jo Buerkle placed 29th.

ìThe girls were a bit surprised with their second place finish,î Johnson said. ìAnnie got pushed into a ditch at the start and her team had a hard time recovering. I think the aggressive mass start taught the girls a tough lesson - sharpen your elbows.

ìThey are not content with third place, especially getting beat by tough section rival Mounds View. They are extremely motivated now.î

The Rangers next race is Jan.11 at the SEC Classic.
