Mickey Mantle team still alive in state tournament

Last yearís Forest Lake Mickey Mantle team won the state tournament and that batch of players are now playing on the American Legion Post 225 team. This yearís Mickey Mantle team has some pretty big shoes to fill as theyíre in the mist of this yearís state tournament.

Forest Lake opened the tournament with a 7-0 victory over Maple Lake. Brent Kolbow pitched seven innings and recorded the victory. Pat Larson was 4-4 in the game with three RBIs.

Forest Lake lost its next game to Deleno by a score of 9-3.

For the first time all season Forest Lake scored in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead, but Delano tied the game in the third and took the lead in the fourth inning after an error allowed a base runner to reach first.

The game was close until Forest Lake errors in the seventh inning lead to six Delano runs, putting the game out of reach.

Monday Forest Lake beat Zimmerman 7-5. Forest Lake had a 7-1 lead going into the seventh inning but two errors in the inning cost the team four runs.

Tom Fick pitched 61?3 innings and Matt Zidar pitched the other 2?3 of an inning. Offensively Sean Nelson was 2-2 with two walks and two runs scored.

Over the course of the weekend Cole Goodyear and Fick each went 5-9 and Peter Webber had six RBIs.
Forest Lake played Tuesday night against Delano.
