With the last regular season game of the year quickly approaching, the Forest Lake Brewers are in the midst of a battle for first place in the Metro Minny League with the Blaine Fusion and St. Francis Saints. It just so happens the Brewers played both the Saints and Fusion in the past week.

The Brewers started the week last Wednesday with a 5-1 win over the Saints who were trailing the first place Brewers by two games going into the game.

Brewers pitcher Chris Parent pitched a complete game victory with 12 strikeouts while walking only two Saints batters.

The Saints took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Brewers settled in and played sound defense the rest of the game, allowing only the one first inning run. Offensively, the Brewers started scoring in the sixth when Paul Miron lead the inning off with a double, followed by an Alex Johnson walk. Chris Anderson scored Miron and Johnson with a double, giving the Brewers a lead they wouldnít relinquish.

The Brewers added three more runs in the seventh inning then Mark Miron and Brian Welch were driven in on a Paul Miron triple. Tyler Enquist later scored Miron with a double.

Sunday the Brewers played a double header with the Fusion in a battle for first place in the Metro Minny League.

The Fusion scored three early runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. The Brewers bats woke up in the fourth inning when they scored three runs to narrow the deficit to two runs.

By the seventh and final inning the Brewers were down 9-4, but wouldnít go down easy. With the bases loaded and two out Aaron Galleberg hit a double to left that scored Paul Miron and Kyle Eaton, bringing the tying run Welch to the plate. The game ended with Welch being called out in a close play at first. The final was 9-6.

In the second game of the double header the game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Fusion scored the gameís only run.
The two losses to the Fusion dropped the Brewers into second place with a league record of 9-5 and overall record of 13-6.

The Brewers next game is Saturday when they host the Saints in a double header at The Ballpark at Schumacher Field starting at 2 p.m.

With the playoffs quickly approaching, the Brewers are fighting to be the top class C team in the Metro Minny League as the top team automatically advances to the regions. The top two remaining C teams will play a three game series for another shot at a spot in the regions.

With their 9-5 record in Metro Minny League play the Brewers are currently the top class C team in the league.
