The Forest Lake Housing and Redevelopment Authority will receive federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for operation of the Whispering Pines senior citizen facility. The funding was announced this week by Eighth District Congressman James Oberstar. ìI am very pleased that HUD has awarded more than $5 million for Northern Minnesota through the Capital Fund Program. HUD provides these funds to housing and redevelopment authorities for modernization, development and management improvements,î Oberstar said. ìThese housing and community revitalization projects will help local housing and redevelopment authorities meet the needs of area residents. These are certainly commendable projects that will improve the quality of life for many residents of Minnesota.î Oberstar does not represent Forest Lake but the announcement of the HUD grant was released by the Democratís office this week with a package of other grants for communities in the district.
