With the Fourth of July holiday this week the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 had a nice light week with only one game.
Last Tuesday the FL Legion team hosted Mahtomedi. The game was a pitchers duel most of the game as Trip Schultz and the Mahtomedi pitcher kept the score 0-0 through seven innings.
In the eighth inning Mahtomediís bats came alive and the FL Legion gloves fell asleep as Mahtomedi scored five runs thanks to some FL errors. In the bottom half of the eighth inning FL was unable to score any runs as Mahtomedi won the game 5-0.
ìIt was a good baseball game, but their pitcher left us off balance,î FL Legion coach Kale Henry said. ìWe had a couple of opportunities but we didnít get the clutch hits.î
The loss puts FLís record at 6-3 on the season.
This weekend FL will compete in the Minnesota Gopher Classic Tournament. FLís games will be played at Bethel College as theyíll take on teams from Minnesota and South Dakota.
ìIt should be a good tournament with a lot of teams from different states coming in,î Henry said. ìWeíll see some top level competition with an opportunity to play a lot of baseball.î
FL hosts St. Paul Park today, Thursday, at 7 p.m. at The Ballpark at Schumacher Field.
After the Gopher Classic this weekend FL only has three games left against Woodbury, Stillwater and North End before district playoffs begin on July 22.
