As the Forest Lake Mickey Mantle team gears up for this weekendís state tournament, they had a shaky week where they went 1-2.

Forest Lake started the week with a 2-1 win over St. Francis. Brent Kolbow pitched 51?3 innings for Forest Lake and Matt Zidar came in in relief for 12?3 innings and was credited with the victory.

The game was tied going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Cole Goodyear singled. Goodyear stole second then stole third base with one out. St. Francis intentionally walked the next two Forest Lake batters to load the bases in the hopes of getting a double play.

Nate Lindgren laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that went as planned and Goodyear scored and Forest Lake won the game.

ìWe had good pitching from our two pitchers and we didnít have an error in the game,î Forest Lake coach Shane Spears said.

In Forest Lakeís next game they had a roller coaster of a game as they lost to Maple Grove 11-10.

Jessie Nordstrom came on in relief to pitch into a double play to end the first inning. Ben Marleau pitched the next 52?3 innings.

ìBen pitched good,î Spears said. ìA few runs scored but we had a few errors behind him.î

At the plate every Forest Lake player had at least one hit as everybody contributed to the teamís 10 runs.

ìIt was an all around effort,î Spears said. ìWe had a few errors, but these kids are 15 years old playing in a 16 year old league so theyíre playing up.î

In the teamís only other game of the week they lost to Champlin 12-4. Forest Lake got three first inning runs and the score was 3-1 in the fourth when an error opened the flood gates to what ended up being seven fourth inning runs for Champlin.
