A total of 86 students will share nearly $47,000 in scholarship funds awarded this year by the local, non-profit Community Scholarship Foundation.

The 2005 award is an all-time high for the local foundation that receives donations from individuals, businesses, organizations and endowments.

Awards to 66 members of the Forest Lake High School Class of 2005 were presented Monday, June 6 at the academic awards program for seniors at the high school.

To date, reports Brian Brogmus, CSF treasurer, a total of $46,900 has been awarded to 86 scholarship applicants.

The 86 scholarships includes 20 prior Forest Lake graduates who applied and received scholarship help to continue their post-secondary education, Brogmus said.

Special designation

The following CSF scholarships include specific designation:

ïThe Maynard J. Peterson Scholarship (in defense or to promote an idea): Hannah Zuzek.

ïThe Gertrude L. Peterson Scholarship (food or nutrition field): Mallory Pikus.

ïThe Hazelden Scholarship (medical/health care or human/social service field): Sarah Wright.

ïThe Virgil Grove Scholarship (education field): Chelsey Tulgren.

ïThe Michael T. Fisher Scholarship (prospective vocational/trade school student): Shawn Erickson and Eric Rucinski.

ïThe Connexus Scholarship (open to members of Connexus): Zachary Clasen, Sarah Davies and Amber Otremba.

ïThe Forest Lake Times Scholarship (given in memory of Tammi Lestrud for those students interested in a business field): Ashley Corbett.

ïThe Elsie Vogel Scholarship (journalism field): Jessica Ruka.

ïThe Al Franzen Scholarship (world languages field): Erica díEntremont.

ïThe Jack Conley Scholarship (athletic recognition in memory of Jack Conley): Zachary Guttormson and Kristel Overson.

ïThe Forest Lake Lions Scholarship (education field): Jesse Traner.

ïThe Forest Lake District Administratorís Scholarship (for exemplary achievement at Forest Lake High School): Molly Tolzmann.

ïThe Leo Sinna Memorial Scholarship: Rebecca Alexander and Paul Miron.

ïPresidential Freedom Scholarship Nominees: These individuals are being sponsored by the Community Scholarship Foundation to complete the application for the Presidential Freedom Scholarship which is given to award students with outstanding leadership service in their community.

The winners will receive a matching $500 scholarship from the Corporation for National and Community Service. Forest Lakeís nominees are being selected.
