In a final tune-up game before section play, the Forest Lake High School baseball team defeated Section 7AAA rival Chisago Lakes last Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Schumacher Field 7-2.
ìIt was a very good win,î Rangers head coach Brian Raabe said.
The Rangers had all three pitchers (Zack Guttormson, Trip Schultz and Jed Hanson) take the mound in the game.
ìWe got to put all three of our aces out there and have them get themselves ready for the sections against a very good team,î Raabe said. ìWe feel Chisago Lakes is the second best team in the section, the record says so anyway, and it was good to see what the opposition has.î
Hanson contributed to the Rangers at the plate as well with an inside the park home run and three RBIís on the day.
The win over Chisago Lakes gives the Rangers a 15-4 overall record. The Rangers earned a share of the Suburban East Conference title with their 10-4 conference record. The 10-4 record put the Rangers in a three-way tie for the conference title with Woodbury and Stillwater.
ìWinning the conference title is a great credit to the athletes and how hard they worked in the off-season and how they prepared,î Raabe said. ìI told them before the season started that we should have a decent team, I didnít know what that would mean though.î
The Rangers opened Section 7AAA play Tuesday when they hosted Elk River at The Ballpark at Schumacher Field. (Editors Note: The game was played after the Times deadline. Please visit www.forestlaketimes.com for a recap or read the next issue of the Times)
ìWeíve got to prepare our team to get ready for the next round,î Raabe said. ìThe first two games of the sections itís win or go home. Weíve got to make sure we can take care of business.î
