Horse show scheduled for June 25
The 5th Annual Ranch Horse Show sponsored by the Dead Broke Saddle Club of Hugo will be held Saturday, June 25 at the Dead Broke Rodeo Grounds north of Hugo.
This annual event features classes for horses of all breeds and riders any age. The show is designed to feature the working qualities of horses that would normally be used for ranch or trail work. There are classes for pleasure horses, barrel racing, trail horses, conformation judging and cattle classes.
The eight classes will start at 10 a.m. with the conformation mares followed by conformation geldings or stallions. The pleasure class will feature different speeds asked by the judge and the horseís general manner will be judged. The ranch versatility will focus on obstacles that are traditionally found on a ranch.
The two cattle classes are working cowhorse and cutting. There is no reining pattern in the working cowhorse class and the cutting event requires the penning of a cow. The barrel race will be held prior to a new class added this year, ranch reining. The show will be approved by Tri-State Horsemenís Association.
The judge for the event is Mr. David Maltais from Texas. Entry fees for each class are nominal and prizes are cash paybacks, depending on the number of horses shown in each class. There are high point awards for mares and geldings/stallions. Cattle fees are extra.
