Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care announced this week that the 17th annual Lindstrom Loppet 5K walk/run is set for Saturday, July 11, at 8 a.m. and will feature computer chip timing. The new timing system is being tried for the first time in the hope it will speed reporting results of the race which last year drew close to 400 participants.

Race organizers Carla Norelius of community health outreach and Leanne Roggemann of clinical quality urge preregistration to help facilitate the computerized timing.

Registration materials have been mailed to past participants, and registration forms are now available at Fairview Chisago Lakes Clinic in Chisago City, Wally Carlson and Sons BP in Lindstrom, and at the information desk at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming.

Advance registration fees are $10 for children age 13 and under and $15 for adults and children age 14 and older. Day-of-event registration is $15 for children age 13 and under and $20 for everyone over age 13. To qualify as advance registration, completed registration forms and fees must be mailed by July 1 or dropped off at the above-mentioned locations no later than noon July 8.
Same-day registration will be accepted from 7-7:45 a.m. on race day. Persons who register after 7:45 a.m. July 11 cannot be guaranteed a number or a computerized time. The race once again begins and ends at Chisago Lakes Evangelical Free Church on Olinda Trail in Lindstrom.

Walkers and runners of all ages are invited to take part. Medals are awarded to males and females in ten age categories ranging from ages 10 and under to age 70 and over as well as to the top male and female runners overall. Each entrant receives a Loppet T-shirt.
Proceeds of the Loppet are designated for health care scholarships and low-cost bike helmets. Last yearís race raised more than $3,000. For more information, contact 651-257-8806.
