City of FL growth rate slowing

While Forest Lake continues to grow at a rapid pace, growth slowed down a bit in 2004.

At the Forest Lake City Council meeting Monday, the council learned there were 901 building permits issued in 2004, according to a report prepared by building official Keith Wille.

That number is down a bit from 2003, when the sum was 1118.

The valuation of the work on those permits last year is $52,519,689.

ìBuilding has slowed down a bit, but 2004 was a very busy year,î said City Administrator Chip Robinson.

He said he expects the city will issue 300 permits for housing units this year.

Community Development Director Doug Borglund said this spring, per usual, will be a busy time.

Storage trailers

At the Feb. 14 city council meeting, city business owners came to talk about storage trailers at their businesses.

Removal of the trailers was requested in order to comply with the cityís zoning ordinance.

At Mondayís meeting Borglund said the city will work with the business owners to ease the transition.

He said the businesses could apply for an administrative certification of compliance to retain the trailers temporarily.

ìSome of these have been there for 18 years and I think we can wait three, four or five months,î he said.

Meetings

Forest Lake City Council regularly meets at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month in Forest Lake City Council Chambers. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 14.
