It was the match up Forest Lake High School girls basketball coach Jack Bender wanted in the first round of the section 4AAAA playoffs. The Rangers drew second seeded North St. Paul, and upset them.
ģIt was really a great thing,ī Bender said. ģWhen you lose 15 games in a row it really wears on everybody. I told the girls when you start losing, fingers start pointing, but if we could put that aside for one night we had a chance.ī
The Rangers set ģpersonal agendasī for the night and jumped out to a 17-13 lead in the first quarter last Wednesday that swelled to 32-25 at the half. By the end of the game the Rangers had outscored North St. Paul 60-55 in what is being touted the biggest upset of the year.
ģEvery kid came into that game and did something positive,ī Bender said.
Renee Frericks led the Rangers in scoring with 25 points, Alisha Johnson and Christina Odegard each had 12 points.
Saturday night the Rangers went into the half trailing St. Paul Como Park 18-16, and went on to lose 39-35.
ģIt was a really tough night because we should really be going to that final,ī Bender said. ģThe kids played hard, were shooting and rebounding, but they jsut couldntķ score.ī
Frericks led the Rangers with 10 points, followed by Krystal Overson with eight points and Johnson with five points.
