Spaghetti dinner, auction benefits Del Branum family
A spaghetti dinner and silent auction on Sunday, March 20 will raise money for the family of Del Branum.
Branum, a longtime business owner in Forest Lake and community volunteer in numerous circles, died Thursday, Feb. 24 after a short battle with cancer. He was 63.
The fund-raiser for the Branum family will be hosted at VFW Post 4210, 556 SW 12th St., from 4-8 p.m. on March 20. Tickets for the spaghetti dinner are $10 each.
The event is being sponsored by a number of friends of the lifelong Forest Lake resident.
ěToday we are asking for our community to help one of our own,î said Jim Trudeau, Forest Lake, a former police chief and county sheriff who was a lifelong friend of Branum.
ěDel Branum was a volunteer servant for over 40 years. He served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years, twice as chief. He was actively involved with many duties, including Christian education at the Forest Lake Christian Church. He has volunteered with the Masons, Ducks Unlimited, Jaycees and the board of the Forest Lake Lakers Baseball Club.î
Along with the dinner, Trudeau said he hopes to have many popular items for the silent auction.
Silent auction items are being sought and anyone wishing to donate an item for the silent auction can call Trudeau at 651-982-2815 or 651-343-1061 for more information.
Tickets for the dinner will be available at the door and can be paid for in advance by sending a check payable to the Branum Benefit Fund, P.O. Box 273, Forest Lake, MN 55025. Monetary donations can also be sent to the above address for those wishing to help, but unable to attend the benefit on March 20.
Branumís cancer was diagnosed last fall and he was unable to work the last four months of his life, Trudeau said.
ěIn these busy times when people are finding less and less time to help, Del stands out for his unselfishness,î Trudeau said. ěCome and help us say thank you.î
