Fille Fest celebrates female artists

No, itís not pronounced ìfilletî like ìfillet a fish.î Itís pronounced ìfee.î Fille is French for ìgirl.î So, put the two together...Girl Fest!

Friday January 25th was the first ever Fille Fest in the Forest Lake High School Auditorium. Performed talents included guitars, violins, and singing. Similar to the well-known Lilith Fair, Fille Fest was strictly for girls...except of course for the special guest MC, Joel ìJoelleî Partyka. His feminine side was pouring through with his deep, movie-phone-guy-like vocal announcing. Along his side was Jessica Ruka. Their humorous skits kept the audience laughing and waiting for more. The first to perform was a violin trio of sophomores Sarah Bizzotto, Katie Phelps, and Chloee Miller, who performed under the warm glow of orange and wowed the crowd and never fell out of rhythm. Next up was Amanda Sigfrinius and Kelsey Griffin singing an a cappella version of ìItís Hard To Say Good-Bye.î Their harmony was breath taking. It is no wonder they got a superior last year at the Suburban East Conference (SEC)! Third on the list of talented women Friday night was Ashley Corbett. Ashley performed an acoustic instrumental version of Stevie Nickís ìLandslide.î This was her first time performance outside of church and despite her nervousness, she did a great job! Following Ashley was Sarah Sigfrinius and Nicole Mansmith singing ìThere Youíll Beî originally sung by performing artist Faith Hill. These two ladies shocked the audience with their amazing vocals and excellent stage chemistry.

The act everyone had been waiting for was the acoustic guitar concert by Sam Grimes. Strumming away on her Epiphone, Sam blew the audience out of their seats with her amazing lyrics and unique strum patterns. Sam owned the stage while singing the songs she wrote herself and the covers of her favorite bands Travis and Oasis. Bare feet tapping to the beat, she kept the audience entranced. In between songs she kept us entertained by making jokes about forgetting lyrics and ìbeing out of it.î Despite her thoughts of embarrassment and mistakes, Sam performed with every once of energy and charisma she had left to spare. All of the girls that performed at Fille Fest did a fantastic job.

Since Sam was the coordinator, someone will have to take control of this next year. This couldíve been history in the making...the first ever Fille Fest 2005.
