Community Ed will showcase summer programs

Nothing to do this summer? Donít make such a statement until youíve attended the ISD 831 Community Education Summer Opportunities Fair.

A full slate of summer activities from June through August will be offered this year and the programs are geared for youth and adults of all ages. A heavy emphasis is placed on youth activities for the summer months, but many programs for adults, including senior citizens, will be offered again this summer.

This summerís Community Education offerings will be showcased from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 16 during a Summer Opportunities Fair. The fair will take place in the cafeteria at the Central Learning Center, 200 SW 4th St.

The event is free and plenty of parking can be found on the west side of the CLC. CLC entry is requested through Door 1 on the west side of the building.

The fair is an opportunity to check out the many exciting opportunities offered by Community Education. Classes, camps, programs and child care for all youth in grades K-6 will be offered this summer.

Priority registration for select summer programs can be made on May 16.

Participants at the fair include: Camp Invention, Mad Science, local art camps, Highway 8 golf lessons, Castlewood Golf Course junior golf league, MinnAqua Fishing Clinic, adult enrichment, Childrenís Theater workshop, School-Age Care, Family Center Preschool Camp, aquatics, PACER Puppets, youth development, Forest Lake Ranger Dance Team Camp, senior citizen programs and youth athletics for baseball and soccer camps.

There will be plenty of special attractions at the Summer Opportunities Fair, including registration for door prizes.

Hot dogs and chips will be sold for 50 cents and cotton candy will be available for 50 cents, as well.

The American Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle will also be on display for public tours Monday and serving free refreshments to the public.
