Boys track team wins Edina Invite

The Forest Lake High School boys track and field team captured its first invitational title in several years with a first place finish at the Edina Invitational Friday.
ìWe had a good meet and we were happy with the results,î Rangers head coach Paul Kendrick said.
The Rangers won the invite with 170 team points. Host Edina was second with 162 points followed by Armstrong with 110 points, Bloomington Jefferson with 107 points, Cooper High School with 103 points and Minneapolis Washburn with 81 points.
ìReally what we did was score a lot of points from fourth place to eighth place,î Kendrick said. ìOur field events were strong too.î
Alex Boerum, Josef Maier and Jake Schmidt took second, third and fourth respectively in the pole vault. Boerum and Maier both had a jump of 11í with Boerum taking the second place honors with more jumps recorded. Schmidt topped out at 10í-6.î
Derek Peterson and Tyler Kleinhuizen again dominated the shot put as Peterson took first and Kleinhuizen second. Peterson had a throw of 49í-5î and Kleinhuizen 47í-3.î The two were atop the leaders in the discus, this time Kleinhuizen taking first with a toss of 136í-6î and Peterson second with a toss of 123í-3.î Teammate Matt Schwartz placed fourth with a toss of 126í-1.î
In the running portion of the invite John Schweitz placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.04 and Erik Stolberg fourth with a time of 53.57. Erik placed fourth in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:32.4.
Jamison Hull took fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:48 with teammate Matt Mach right behind him in fifth place with a time of 4:52.
Other notable finishes included a second place finish in the 4x800 meter relay team, second in the 4x400, second in the sprint medley and third in the 4x100.
ìThis was the kind of meet where I think our team was learning how we need to compete for those points in the fourth to eighth places,î Kendrick said. ìWe had a lot of people that helped us achieve our points.î
The Rangers next event is next Thursday, May 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Hastings.
