FLHS all-night party taking shape

Plans are rapidly taking shape for the annual all-night party for 2005 graduating seniors at Forest Lake High School.

The Class of 2005 Forest Lake High School Senior All-Night Party is scheduled Thursday, June 9, immediately following graduation. This year will mark the 25th year of providing seniors with an exciting, fun, safe, and chemical-free graduation celebration alternative.

This yearís theme is ìGreat to be Alive in 2000Five.î The all-night party will be held at Southwest Junior High. Students are expected to stay all night to enjoy the activities, which will end about 5 a.m. on Friday.

The all-night party gives seniors an opportunity to spend a final night with classmates and celebrate graduation.

Entertainment includes casino games, giant tricycle races, mini-golf, jousting, pool and poker tables. Graduates can have their T-shirts airbrushed-painted and their hair done up in unique styles and colors. The swimming pool will be open for a game of water polo, or a quick dip to revitalize the energy level to make it through the night.

There will be a DJ playing a variety of music types, plus there is a movie room for those who need to take a break while watching a favorite movie.

This yearís feature entertainment again includes an appearance by hypnotist, John Ivan Palmer. His performance in the past three years has been a highlight for the seniors.

Lots of food and drink will be provided throughout the night.

Prizes will be awarded throughout the night. Each student wins a prize, which is valued around $25. In addition, they also have a chance to win one of the larger prizes, valued from $50-$200. Each student will be provided a bin in which to place all of their valuables, while they are out enjoying the activities. The bins are in a secure area and will be given to the graduate at the end of the party for them to take home.

Everything is included in the ticket price so students do not need any extra money for the evening.

Putting on a senior party requires hundreds of volunteer hours. Volunteers donít have to be a parent of a senior to help. In fact, we are hoping to get greater participation from more junior and sophomore parents.

There are many adults who donít have sons or daughters in high school who volunteer to help. Volunteers can do anything from serving food to dealing blackjack. It really is a fun night for the graduates and the volunteers. Help is needed before, during and after the party.

The success of this party is heavily dependent on parental support and involvement, as well as community support where local businesses and organizations provide donations to help supplement the cost of entertainment, activities, prizes and food.

In January, letters were sent out to local businesses requesting support. The businesses in the Forest Lake Area School District have been very supportive through donations of prizes, services, money, time and talent to make this evening a successful conclusion to the high school experience.

During May, hundreds of phone calls will be made to parents of high school students asking them to volunteer time. By having the party at Southwest Junior High School, and with the extensive community support, costs are kept down.

Advance tickets are $45 and can be purchased during all lunch periods May 31-June 8. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $50. For any additional information on how to contribute and/or volunteer, call Laurel Walker, 651-464-0631.
