Girls track team takes fourth at 5AAA true team

It may not have been a first place team finish at the section 5AAA true team meet last Tuesday for the Forest Lake High School girls track and field team, but they came away content with their performance.

ìIt wasnít our best day, but we definitely had some awesome field events,î Rangers head coach Janet Howe said. ìWe had some good times and kids were dropping their personal record times, thatís about all you can really ask for. It makes a big difference when you come away with a PR.î

Kristi Buerkle had first place finishes in the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprints. In the 100 meter dash Buerkle finished with a time of 13.0, in the 200 a time of 25.96 and in the 400 a time of 58.23.

Becky Alexander took first in the discus and third in the shot put. In the discus Alexander had a throw of 125í-1î and a throw of 23í-3.5î in the shot put. Stephanie England was fifth in the discus with a throw of 103í-10î and with a throw of 34í-6.25î Kierstin Nygaard was fifth in the shot put.

Chelynne Pringle was competitive in the hurdles as she took third in the 300-hurdles and fifth in the 100-hurdles. In the 300-hurdles Pringle had a time of 48.89 and a time of 17.25 in the 100-hurdles. Danielle Boldenow was right behind Pringle in the 100-hurdles with a time of 17.41 in sixth place.

Pringle also took first in the pole vault with a height of 9í even, a full four inches ahead of the second place finisher.
JoAnna Koski was a second place finisher in the high jump with a height of 5í even. Christy Newell was fourth with a 4í-10î jump.

The Rangers finished the meet with 529.5 points behind first place White Bear Lake who had 644 points, Blaine (612.5) and Cambridge-Isanti (555).

Filly Classic

Back on May 6 the Rangers competed at the Fily Classic Relays in Stillwater and came away with a fifth place finish behind first place Stillwater (107 points), Mounds View (104 points), Woodbury (94.5 points) and White Bear Lake (84 points). The Rangers finished with 78.5 points.

ìWe had a really good meet,î Howe said. ìOur field events really took off. Thatís kind of where weíve been strong this year with a few veteran throwers.î

The relay team of Alexander, England and Kierstin Nygaard took first place in the shot put with a combined distance of 101í-3î. The team of Alexander, England and Nicole Schroeder took first in the discus with a combined distance of 292í-6î.

The combination of Sarah Larson, Brittni LaFontsee, Kelsey Kosmon and Buerkle took second in the 800 meter medley with a time of 1:52.1.

Pringle, Newell and Chelsie Carpenter were second place finishers in the pole vault with a combined height of 26í.
The team of Koski, Newell, Pringle and Danielle Boldenow took third in the 1200 meter low hurdles team race with a time of 3:25.7.

ìI think weíre coming a long way on the track,î Howe said. ìWeíve seen a lot of improvement this year which is a big deal with the young group we have. Weíre only going to get better as the kids get more experience.î
The Rangers next meet is Saturday at the state true meet.
