Wayward drivers face criminal charges in FL
Two Forest Lake residents could be on the wrong side of the law this week after the car they were in failed to stay on the road early Friday morning.
City police were called to Alpine Apartments, 219 SW 3rd Ave. at 5:28 a.m. after receiving a public call of yelling and breaking glass in the area.
At the scene, officers found a fence knocked down and a yard damaged by a vehicle.
A short time later, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said, police were called to the area of 21235 Iverson Ave. where there were new reports of vehicle damage to yards.
At the home on Iverson, police arrested William P. Burgess, 40. He was booked at the Washington County Jail for probable cause possession of a firearm by a felon and third-degree driving under the influence. Quiring said ammunition for the firearm was also found in the car.
A female companion who also lives with Burgess at the same address on Iverson is also facing charges. The chief said Georgette Adams, 56, faces possible driving charges and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.
At the second location, city police received two additional reports of yards being damaged by a vehicle that had driven off the road.
2 men arrested
Quiring said this week the arrest of two men last week may be a step in resolving a series of car tamperings and thefts from vehicles that have happened in the southwest area of the city.
At 9:27 a.m., Thursday, May 19, police were called to the parking lot of VFW Post 4210, 556 SW 12th St. where a car was parked containing a number of compact disc players that are suspected of being stolen. Police arrested two men and are considering charges against a third man from North Branch.
Taken into custody were: Nathan J. Suppon, 24, of Shafer, and Jordan M. Norris, 24, of Pine City.
Suppon faces charges of first-degree controlled substance possession and possession of materials that are ingredients used for the manufacture of methamphetamine. Norris faces felony charges of possession of stolen property and a fifth-degree controlled substance charge.
Quiring said the suspects are being investigated for the possible connection to four reports of vehicle tampering and thefts from vehicles that took place in the 800 block of SW 12th Street late Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. Car stereos and CD players were reported stolen, the chief said.
