Despite cold and windy weather last Tuesday, the Forest Lake High School boys track team competed at the Roseville Invite and finished fourth out of eight teams.
ìWe had a nice meet at the Roseville Invite,î Rangers head coach Paul Kendrick said. ìConditions were pretty tough as far as the weather, but the boys gave a good effort.î
The best effort of the day was Aaron Andersonís sophomore school record in the triple jump. Andersonís jump of 40í 11?2î broke Marty Jensenís record of 39í 1î that was set in 1976.
ìThat was one of our oldest records,î Kendrick said. ìAaronís performance was pretty impressive.î
Derek Peterson and Tyler Kleinhuizen had a good day throwing. Peterson placed first in the shot put with a throw of 52í 9î and Kleinhuizen third with a throw of 47í 5î. Kleinhuizen placed second in the discus with a throw of 136í and Peterson third with a throw of 127í. Pat VanBeckum placed seventh in both events.
ìThe throwers did a tremendous job of placing,î Kendrick said.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Erik Stolberg, John Schweitz, Brandon Neujahr and Jesse Kolbow had a time of 3:40.
ìThey were really competitive at the meet,î Kendrick said.
The sprint medley relay team of Josef Maier and Geoff Cass running the 200 meter legs, Jack Wittrock the 400 meter leg and Jamison Hull the 800 meter leg finished fourth with a time of 3:55.
In the 400 meter sprint, Stolberg placed fourth with a time of 52.9 and Schweitz fifth with a time of 53.0. Matt Mach lowered his time in the 3200 meter race by almost 30 seconds with his time of 10:13 that was good for eighth place.
ìWeíre getting everybody focusing and executing to their ability,î Kendrick said. ìMy concern is for the multi sport athletes that are out for track and theyíre realizing it is tough to compete in both sports during our season. It is affecting their performances.î
The Rangers next meet is Tuesday at White Bear Lake at 4 p.m.
