FLHS alumnus named ëFamily Physician of the Yearí

A former Forest Lake resident has been named the 2005 Family Physician of the Year by the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians.

Alan R. Carlson, M.D., a 1975 Forest Lake High School graduate, was formally recognized with the award on Nov. 4 at the annual Family Physician meeting in Wisconsin Dells.

According to the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians, the award recognizes a physician who ìexemplifies the tradition of the family doctor.î

Carlson, who practices at Cumberland Medical Clinic in Cumberland, WI, graduated summa cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1979.

He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota - Duluth Medical School. Carlson completed his Family Medicine Residency through the Cedar Rapids Medical Education Program.

In support of Dr. Carlsonís nomination for Family Physician of the Year, Dr. Michael Manoles complimented, ìHis clinical expertise is matched by his warm, welcoming manner. It is a pleasure to work with a family physician that treats his patients so kindly, and it is obvious that his patients respect and appreciate him.î

Carlson, wife Diane, and their family reside in Cumberland. His community involvement includes volunteer work through Augustana Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam Lake Management District and a term on the Cumberland Memorial Hospital Board.
