Columbus Elementary Webelows from Boy Scout Pack 487 got a lesson in civics last Wednesday night when they sat in on part of the Columbus Township Town Board meeting.
The scouts stuck around to hear discussion about Township Building Official Nick Schmitzís memo to the Town Board requesting an increase in permits. Schmitz cites the increase to inflation and the expected increase in fuel cost.
After a brief discussion the Board felt Schmitzís request to raise fees was warranted.
Some fee changes include raising a residential mechanical permit fee from $75 to $95 and the fireplace permit fee from $50 to $75. The plumbing fee is currently a $23 base, plus $8 per fixture fee, but will raise to a $30 base with a $10 per fixture fee.
Steinke letter
At the Oct. 26 Town Board meeting the Board voted 3-2 in favor of removing Don Steinke from the Road and Bridge Advisory Board.
Supervisor John Wallner was one of the three votes to remove Steinke, but asked for a vote to reconsider at a later meeting so that he had time to think about his decision and make sure his decision wasnít being made out of spite.
ěI am glad I reconsidered for the sense of being able to think this out more than I did the first time,î Steinke said. ěTo be perfectly honest I see some arguments on both sides and I struggled a lot over the last two weeks, but I got a lot of phone calls from people I knew and others I didnít and they were all urging me to stick with my original vote.î
Wallner did stick with his original vote, making the vote 3-2 to remove Steinke from the Road and Bridge Advisory board.
