School begins strategic planning steps

ěOur communities and our schools are constantly changing. What was good for our students even five years ago may not be the best today,î said Superintendent Lynn Steenblock in announcing the start of a strategic planning process. This year parents, community members, teachers, administrators, business people and others will work together to re-evaluate the districtís mission statement and beliefs, and set new goals and objectives. The strategic planning process, which was first adopted in 1999, will allow people concerned with the future of the schools to discuss the values and beliefs of our district. ěRe-visiting our goals and beliefs on a regular basis allows us to identify the good things we have in place, come up with other ideas that fit our vision, and develop a big picture of how we want our district to look in the future,î Steenblock said. A Strategic Planning Team (made up of community members and district staff) will meet in December, and again in April, to re-examine the districtís vision, beliefs, values, goals and objectives. Volunteers are needed to serve in this very important role. Anyone interested in taking part in the planning sessions on Dec. 7-9, and April 17-18, 2006, can fill out the Strategic Planning Team Application on-line at www.forestlake.k12.mn.us.
