Benefit for FL woman set Nov. 29 in Minneapolis

A benefit for a Forest Lake woman who is recovering from a brain aneurysm will take place Tuesday, Nov. 29 in Minneapolis.

Karen Nelson survived the life-threatening attack but has no insurance benefits. The benefit will provide funds to assist with hospital and doctor bills, prescriptions and other miscellaneous medical expenses.

The Nov. 29 benefit will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Azia Restaurant and Caterpillar Lounge, 2550 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis. There is no admission to the gathering of friends, co-workers and supporters.

Donation baskets will be available. The bar will be privatized for the two-hour event. Free appetizers will be served. The public is invited to attend.

Nelson became ill on Oct. 10 and went to a hospital emergency room for a suspected migraine headache. The incident turned out to be much more serious, said Emmy Boyce, a co-worker and friend.

Thanks to the ER doctors, a hematoma was removed from Nelsonís brain and an aneurysm was clamped just in time, Boyce said.

ěThe migraine was unrelated, but thankfully sent her into the ER where they discovered she had the aneurysm,î Boyce said. ěIt was caught in the nick of time.î

Nelson is a temporary service employee working in the customer service department of the EFTEC Division of H.B. Fuller Co. in Vadnais Heights.

In addition to the benefit on Nov. 29, a fund in Karen Nelsonís name has been established at an area bank.

Donations can be sent to: Community National Bank, Karen Nelson Fund, attention Ann, 7641 Lake Drive, Circle Pines, MN 55014.
