Pangal hires attorney in Wyoming dispute

New information has surfaced in a city of Wyoming issues that has laid to the police chief being placed on paid administrative leave. But the city and its police chief, Tony Pangal, are saying little about the matter.

Mayor Sheldon Anderson confirmed on Monday that he is the citizen who filed the complaint against Pangal. The complaint led to Pangalís paid leave as of Friday, Oct. 21.

The newspaper also learned this week Pangal has retained an attorney to contest the allegations. Daniel Le of the St. Paul Kelly-Fawcett PA, has been retained.

Pangal was placed on paid leave a complaint regarding certain actions which may have been taken by the police chief. Anderson this week repeated that the city can not comment on the matter because of the Data Practices Act.

The city has hired private investigator Richard Setter to investigate the case.

Anderson said Monday he was not certain when that investigation would be completed nor when the Pangal issue could be fully resolved.

Le said Monday Pangal was declining public comment until a later time. He said he was not at liberty to discuss the matter because of the investigation that is still taking place.

ìWe are trying to be cooperative here,î Le said.

For the record, Le said his client ìstrenuously objectsî to any allegations of inappropriate conduct on his part.

Anderson stepped forward to acknowledge his role in the formal complaint following a KSTP television report last week. ìI am the one who filed the complaint,î Anderson said.

Further comment regarding the investigation would be unfair to Pangal and the city as the matter is resolved, Anderson said.

While Pangal remains on paid leave, his duties with the police department are being filled by Sgt. Scott Dexter.
