FL school levy soundly defeated;
Gay, Corcoran, Langness elected to board
A school levy proposal in ISD 831 was soundly defeated by district voters on Tuesday. The proposal to raise an additional $2 million in operating funds and renew an existing $6 million operating levy for five years was shot down by a margin of 5266 to 3576.
In the race for three four-year terms on the school board, the one incumbent was knocked out and the two anti-school levy candidates were swept into office by district voters. David Gay, Forest Lake, who ran on a campaign opposing the levy, was the top vote getter with 3810 ballots in his favor. Julie Corcoran, Forest Lake, was second with 3666 votes while Eric M. Langness, Forest Lake, the other anti-levy candidate, claimed the third seat with 3577 ballots.
Dan Kieger, Lino Lakes, was fourth in the contest with 3469 votes.Incumbent Jody Krebs of Columbus Township, was defeated in her reelection bid with 3462 votes. Michele DeWitt, Forest Lake, was last in the contest with 2262 votes.
A total of 8900 ballots were cast in the District 831 election.
